Dúo actoral estadounidense. Lunt debutó en el teatro en Boston en 1912 y posteriormente protagonizó Clarence en Broadway (1919). Fontanne debutó como actriz en Londres en 1909 y un año después en Nueva York. Se casaron en 1922, y desde 1924 hasta 1929 fueron miembros del Theatre Guild. Actuaron juntos en más de 25 obras entre las que se cuentan La guardia (1924) y Un modelo de vida (1933), obra escrita por Noë l Coward para ellos. Fueron considerados la más importante pareja teatral estadounidense y obtuvieron elogios por la sutileza y la íntima complementación de sus interpretaciones, especialmente en las comedias de Coward y George Bernard Shaw.
